BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Harding University men’s soccer head coach Dr. Greg Harris earned his first Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year award Wednesday, and forward Phillip McCormick was named GSC Freshman of the Year as the conference office released its postseason honors.Harding, which set a school record with three GSC victories and qualified for its second straight GSC Tournament, had four players named to the All-GSC Team. The Bisons have had only six All-GSC selections in the previous eight seasons.McCormick, a native of Coppell, Texas, leads Harding and ranks second in the GSC with 11 goals. He became the first Harding freshman ever to earn First-Team All-GSC honors. He was joined on the First Team by senior midfielder Odie Guzman. A native of Lewisville, Texas, Guzman became only the second Harding player to be two-time All-GSC, matching the feat of Ben Faris in 2002 and 2003. Guzman has one goal and is tied for the team lead with five assists.Bison junior defender Chad Marshall and senior forward Carter Truax earned positions on the All-GSC Second Team. Marshall, a native of Bowling Green, Ky., had two goals and two assists while starting all 17 games. Both of his goals were game-winners. Truax, who hails from Lancaster, Ohio, is tied for second on the team in both goals (6) and assists (5).
Harris is in his eighth season as the Harding head coach for both men and women. He has three women’s Coach of the Year awards already on his resume.

McCormick is the second HU player to claim the award, first since Ben Faris grabbed co-honors in 2002. The Coppell, Texas native is in the top four of the GSC in shots per game (1st), points per game (4th) and goals scored (2nd). Paul Souders, Coppell Graduate, Named Lobo Men's Soccer Assistant Coach | 04/16/08
April 2, 2008 (Source - University of New Mexico Athletics) University of New Mexico men's soccer head coach Jeremy Fishbein announced the addition of Paul Souders to the Lobo coaching staff today. Souders comes to UNM as an assistant coach after three seasons in the same role at the University of Dayton. Souders will be replacing associate head coach Carl Junot who has accepted a similar position at Harvard University. Former Lobo assistant coach Jamie Clark recently took over as the head coach at Harvard. "Paul is a guy that I have known and been impressed with for years," stated Fishbein. "When we had an opening come up at UNM he was one of the first guys I had in mind. I am really excited to have him come join us and I know he will be a valued asset to our program." Souders, 27, spent the last three seasons at Dayton, helping the Flyers to a 27-18-11 overall record. In addition to the success on the field, Souders has coached four former Flyers who have played professionally in North America and Europe. "I am very excited to join Coach Fishbein's staff here at New Mexico," stated Souders. "The Lobo program has a great reputation in collegiate soccer based on their accomplishments over the past few years and I am hoping to add that success." A native of Dallas and a graduate of Coppell High School, Souders earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education at Clemson University. Souders also played in the United States Olympic Pool for Under-23. He has coaching experience with the New Mexico State U-16 team. Souders was also a graduate assistant in 2004 at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Dayton finished the 2007 campaign 10-4-5 overall and advanced to the opening round of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship. The Flyers completed the season on a six-game unbeaten streak, had two players selected to the All-Atlantic 10 and NSCAA/adidas® Middle Atlantic Region teams and finished No. 8 in the regional rankings. Link to this article on University of New Mexico Athletics Webpage 2006 Coppell Grads Honored | 02/26/08 2006 Coppell graduates Lindsay Cogburn and Colin McDaniel were named to the Academic All-American Southwest Conference team along with 35 other Hardin Simmons University Athletes. Both Lindsay and Colin are sophomores at Hardin Simmons and both play on their respective soccer teams. Colin also received Honorable Mention from the ASC All Conference committee. To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have lettered in the fall 2007 season, be in their second year and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better. 2005 Coppell Graduate / Kathleen (Kat) McCullough | 8/21/06Kathleen McCullough named an Academic All-Western Athletic Conference Freshman. The four year starter for Coppell High School's Women's Soccer Program [2002 through 2005], ended her first year of college with a 3.43 GPA, and saw action in all 17 soccer matches for Louisiana Tech University during the 2005 season. Along with Kat, Louisiana Tech placed 8 freshman soccer players on the Western Athletic Conference's (WAC) All Academic Freshman List -more than any of the conference's other seven soccer programs. In the WAC, student athletes must have a 3.0 GPA or better and have participated in at least half of their teams' contests to qualify for an Academic All-Conference honor. Making 14 starts for LaTech's Lady Techsters in the program's first year in the WAC, Kathleen McCullough, wearing her number 11, totaled over 1,100 minutes of action, averaging just over 66 minutes per game. She recorded five goals, four assists and fourteen points in her first year of Division I collegiate play. Her three assists vs. Belhaven College [at 1:00 minute, 58:45 minutes, and 89:15 minutes] in an 8-0 win on Sept. 9, 2005, was the individual season best for assists in a single game among all WAC players, and ranks eighth nationally. Kat ranked 2nd in the WAC by recording three game-winning goals on the season; and holds 4 more top 10 Conference rankings of the 9 categories available to field players: No. 8 in goals per game (0.29), No. 9 in points per game (0.82), No. 10 in points (14), and No. 10 in goals (5). Kat had a team-high 31 shots. Her goals and points both ranked second on the 2005 LaTech team. She registered her first collegiate goal at 1:55 into the match in a Louisiana Tech 7-0 win over Robert Morris College on Sept. 2, and her first collegiate assist on the second goal in a 2-0 win over Centenary College on Sept. 4. At Coppell, Kat played just over 3,625 minutes in 89 contests scoring 37 goals and closed her high school career playing in 64 wins, 18 losses and 7 ties. Kat played in the 2002 State Semi-Finals as a Freshman and with Coppell's first ever District Champion Cowgirl soccer team her Senior year in 2005 Kat will be recovering from an ACL injury suffered last March when LaTech opens its 2006 campaign on August 25 against Nicholls State in Thibodaux, LA. The first home game and first game ever on the newly resurfaced Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston will be September 1 vs. SFA. Kat is expected back to play before LaTech's first 2006 WAC game against Utah State October 8 in Ruston. 2006 Coppell Sidekicks| 8/15/06
2005 Coppell Graduate Scott Geppert | 6/05/06DALLAS (SMU) - SMU head men's soccer coach Schellas Hyndman announced the addition of three more student-athletes to the Mustang squad for this coming season. They include transfers Scott Geppert (Coppell, Texas), Ben Hemkens (Eureka, Mo.), and freshman Seth Tamminga (Aurora, Colo.). A 6-0 forward, Geppert comes to SMU via Brown University where he earned the 2005 Ivy league Rookie of the Year honor. He led the Bears in scoring last season with four goals and six assists, including three game-winning goals. A third-team freshman All-America selection by College Soccer News, Geppert saw action in all 18 games for Brown, starting in 14. Named the 2004 Texas State Player of the Year his senior season at Coppell High School, Geppert earned All-America status and was named MVP of the 2004 Texas state tournament. He scored 54 goals during his career at Coppell. Geppert played club soccer for the Dallas Comets '87 blue team, which won the 2003 Texas Premier League championship.
